Lucky Magazine: Style Star In The Making: Meet Vampire Academy's Zoey Deutch

As soon as Zoey Deutch walked into Lucky's offices we knew she was well on her way to becoming a breakout style star—after all, her recent red carpet looks have included a color-blocked Tommy Hilfiger look from the "To Tommy From Zooey" collection and a ladylike Dior dress from the brand's spring 2014 line (see slideshow above). She's totally cute—it's hard for anyone who's seen Back to the Future or Some Kind of Wonderful not to note her resemblance to her '80s icon of a mom, actress Lea Thompson—and super funny (she cracked us up by calling the cleavage-enhancing inserts that she wore  for Vampire Academy "jelly boobs.") “They were very helpful when it came to my stunt work, but don't tell anyone about them or they'll think I had a boob reduction after this movie!” she jokes.
The movie finds Deutch (as Rose Hathaway) and fellow rising star Lucy Fry (as Lissa Dragomir) playing half human/half vampire best friends at a boarding school for vampires. "I was struck by how accurately this movie portrays the hilarity of being a teenager—the things that happen, the first experiences, and the awkward encounters you go through," says Deutch, who at 19, is still a teen herself. The movie, based on The New York Times bestselling book series by Richelle Mead and written/directed by brothers Daniel and Mark Waters (the same writer/director of Mean Girls and Heathers, respectively) keeps Deutch in a very specific uniform: "My main outfit in the movie is a leather jacket, black pants and combat boots. I wore some AllSaints stuff, but I also wore things that weren't as nice to stick with the character's lifestyle," she says. Off-screen it's a different story—every time she hits the red carpet, she shows off her chic side.
