What does actress Zoey Deutch have in common with rock icon Jim Morrison? Movies, of course! The 19-year-old daughter of Lea Thompson is tapped to star in Cover Girl, the long awaited film from director Sue Kramer – a past recipient of UCLA’s prestigious Jim Morrison Award for Outstanding Direction and Writing. The New Yorker rom-com will allow Deutch to channel her inner screwball as Meg Daniels, a Queens gal with a unique way of handling her Cambridge tuition. Although we have yet to see “Cover Girl” on Hollywood billboards, the star assumed the role long before she was cast.
Deutch has been known to hypnotize. The Disney faithful received their first dose of Z.D. on The Suite Life on Deck when she starred as Maya Bennett, and a slightly older demographic was introduced to Zoey (also slightly older) on The CW’sRinger. Both roles connected with younger audiences, which led Hollywood agents to acknowledge the supreme power of the future cover girl and cast her in young-adult films like Richard LaGravanese’s Beautiful Creatures and Mark Waters’Vampire Academy. The future is now for Deutch.
The perks of having family in the business are certainly helpful for young Zoe, but don’t mistake her talent as a product of the system. She was cast in Cover Girl for a reason. In fact, one may want to hold a picture of Zoey Deutch side-by-side withRita Hayworth and see what happens. It could be magic. After all, the New York-born Hayworth starred in a 1944 film called Cover Girl. Everybody has to start somewhere.
Why do you need to know about Zoey Deutch? The answer is simple: she will be everywhere by 2015 and her classic Hollywood looks will ensure a prolific career for years to come.
