07.16 | Zoey Deutch shares her beauty tips with ASOS

HI ZOEY! DO YOU EVER SHOP AT ASOS?

I’m obsessed with ASOS, I was on it for about four hours last night. I have a terrible addiction. There’s such a wide variety of styles, I like that because my style is always changing and I’m not really attracted to the same thing.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING TO BUY?

I’m looking for a really good pair of tight, leather trousers. I found a pair of Helmut Lang ones but they didn’t have them in my size. J Brand do some really nice ones. I think I’d be OK to spend the big bucks on them because it’s an investment; I’d have them forever (even though I might not be able to wear them forever!). When I buy something expensive, my mother would always ask, ‘Are you gonna have x amount of dollars fun in that?’ If you buy something for 100 dollars, you need to be having 100 dollars of fun in it!

YOUR HAIR ALWAYS LOOKS AMAZING, WHAT'S YOUR SECRET?

I think the most important thing is to keep your hair healthy. I make sure I condition it really well. I don’t use any fancy products or anything though, I literally just use Kirkland shampoo and conditioner which I pick up from Costco – I swear by it.
What about make-up, what’s your signature look?
I did a lot of heavy, dark eyes for a while so right now I like more clean, fresh make-up for summer.
Do you have a favourite product?
Definitely mascara. I love Mac’s Studio Fix – the black one.

DO YOU HAVE ANY TRADEMARK ACCESSORIES?

I have a pair of silver earrings that are different. One is a skeleton (pictured) and the other one is a crystal, I love wearing them together, they go really well. I always wear a bunch of rings together too; I bought them in Montana and Mexico.
Chokers or scrunchies?
Chokers

DO YOU HAVE A STYLE ICON?

I love Kate Bosworth and I love Elle Fanning. Elle dresses for herself and I like that, I really love her style.
Finally, who is your dream date?
Hmm, I’d like to go to dinner with a lot of people, but I’d have to say my boyfriend [actor Avan Jogia].

07.15 | 3 Summer Hairstyles Using 3 Bobby Pins With Zoey Deutch

A gorgeous hairstyle doesn’t just happen. There’s usually an entire infrastructure behind it, and, more often than not, the glue that holds it all together is the bobby pin. It’s the resident, pint-sized powerhouse of any beauty toolbox, but it’s rarely given the credit it deserves. We decided it’s time to showcase the bobby pin’s versatility. Of course, a bobby pin without hair to pin does very little to help our cause. Luckily, actress Zoey Deutch graciously agreed to have her tresses tousled and pinned.

The brunette beauty, who’s graced both the big and small screens, told us she usually keeps her look clean and simple (lately she’s been loving a laidback low ponytail). But in the very capable hands of celebrity makeup artist Andre Sarmiento and hairstylist and co-owner of Ramirez|Tran Salon Anh Co Tran, Deutch let us get her all dolled up.
Flip through to see the step-by-step instructions on how to create three totally chic (and insanely easy) hairstyles using only three bobby pins!
1st HAIRSTYLE
Pony Up
Tran positioned Deutch’s ponytail up high—a little above her crown. “Using a rubber band wrap with two hooks on the end, wrap it around and hook it in,” Tran says. Tran prefers Hair Bungees ($10) because “With rubber bands you have to twist and that sometimes messes up the hair too much.”

Wrap
Next, Tran took a bit of loose hair from the bottom of Deutch’s ponytail and wrapped it around the band.

Prop It Up With Pins
“Take three bobby pins and criss-cross them in the back, right behind the ponytail, to give it some height,” Tran says. He says this little trick helps the ponytail stand up more and prevents it from collapsing.

Final Look: Voluminous Texture
The perfect complement for Deutch’s serious volume? A pinky nude lip. Sarmiento used Make Up For Ever’s Lip Liner Pencil in #49 ($18) to create her nearly nude pout.

2nd HAIRSTYLE
Curl
Tran wrapped Deutch’s strands around a 1-¼ inch wide curling iron, leaving the ends out, and alternating the direction of the curls. Then he raked his fingers through the curls to break them up.

Texturize
Tran sprayed Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray ($42) onto Deutch’s roots and did some light backcombing.

Brush And Pin
To finish the look, Tran brushed Deutch’s hair out and added three bobby pins to anchor her deep side part.

Final Look: Voluminous Texture
The perfect complement for Deutch’s serious volume? A pinky nude lip. Sarmiento used Make Up For Ever’s Lip Liner Pencil in #49 ($18) to create her nearly nude pout.
3rd HAIRSTYLE

Spray
Before launching into this bun, Tran sprayed more Dry Texturizing Spray ($42) from Oribe (he goes through a can a week!). “The most important thing is having the hair dirty—it’s the texture that keeps everything together.”

Twist
“Smooth the hair around to the point where you want it and twist,” Tran says. He positioned Deutch’s cool-girl top-knot slightly off to one side.

Pin
Once you’ve spun all of your hair into a bun, pin it in place, using the same bobby pin technique—the first pin goes down into the bun, and the rest cross it.

Final Look: Tilted Top-Knot
A titled top-knot, red-stained lips, and a little leopard? Yep, we’re in love. For that just-bitten, red tint, Sarmiento used his finger to press MAC’s Ruby Woo Lipstick ($16) onto Deutch’s lips.
